Zenith was founded in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot in Le Locle, where it still makes its own movements. He brought every step of watchmaking under one roof, one of the first manufactures in the modern sense.
In 1969 Zenith presented the El Primero, one of the first automatic chronograph calibres and a high-beat movement at 36,000 vibrations an hour. It has powered Zenith's own chronographs since, and for a time the Rolex Daytona too.
