Rolex was founded in London in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis, and moved to Geneva after the First World War. Wilsdorf believed a wristwatch could be as precise and as tough as a pocket watch, and set out to prove it.
The Oyster case of 1926 made the wristwatch waterproof, the Perpetual rotor of 1931 made it wind itself, and the sports models of the 1950s and 1960s made it an icon. Vintage Rolex is collected for its dials, its references and the small changes between them.
